Crunchy Air Fryer Sweet Potato Fries are the perfect side dish to burger night! These sweet potato fries in the air fryer are so easy and make the BEST sweet potato fries I've had.
Sweet Potato Fries are a staple side dish for our family. We all love them so it's a win-win! The only issue is that they take awhile to roast in the oven. The solution? Air Fryer Sweet Potato Fries! Not only do they cook much quicker, but air fryer fires are super crispy using only a little oil, just like in my Air Fryer Butternut Squash.
Delicious sweet potato fries in a fraction of the time? Yes, please! This is my favorite way to make sweet potato fries - especially served with a delicious fry sauce!
These healthy fries are our favorite healthy side dish not only when we make burgers but also with grilled chicken or steak and a sandwich. The air fryer is the perfect way to make a side dish that you set and forget while it's cooking!
These air fryer fries only require five ingredients (and one is salt!) and are super simple.
Sweet Potatoes - of course! I like to look for even-shaped sweet potatoes that are longer so they are easy to cut into fries. Sometimes I peel mine and sometimes I don't - it just depends on your preference!
Olive Oil
Garlic Powder - I love the flavor that garlic powder adds to these sweet potato fries.
Paprika - paprika adds a little bit of a smoky peppery flavor that makes these fries super special.
Sea Salt - I love using coarse sea salt. You can add some black pepper too, if you'd like.
As I've mentioned, these homemade sweet potato fries are so easy to make in the air fryer. It is my favorite sweet potato fries recipe!
Prep the sweet potatoes. You can make these sweet potato fries with skin off or skin on sweet potatoes. I have done it both ways. If I keep the skin on I just make sure to scrub it well to remove excess dirt. Slice the sweet potatoes into long strips. I cut my sweet potato in half length-wise and then, with the flat side down, cut it into strips. If it's a thick sweet potato then I cut each strip into half or thirds to make them look like French fries. In addition, you can cut them into sweet potato wedges, if you'd prefer!
Season the sweet potatoes. In a large bowl, combine the sweet potatoes, olive oil, garlic salt, paprika, and salt, and give it a good stir.
Preheat the air fryer. Preheat the air fryer at 375 degrees F for 5 minutes.
Air fry the sweet potatoes. Place the sweet potatoes into the air-fryer basket. Air fry the sweet potatoes for 15-20 minutes. The cook time somewhat varies on how large your sweet potatoes are (aka how many fries you end up with) and the size of your air fryer basket. You don't want to overcrowd the basket, either, so if your basket seems too full you might want to cook them in two batches. I also like to give the air fryer a little shake halfway through to get the fries to turn a little. If they don't seem quite done after cooking time of 20 minutes, keep cooking them in 1-2 minutes intervals.
Serve. Serve with a dipping sauce (we love Sriracha mayo!) and enjoy! This healthy and easy side dish is perfect with any sort of burger or sandwich, some grilled meat, or anything you'd eat French fries with!
Add some spice. Add ¼ teaspoon of cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes to add some spice to the fries. For a more mild kick, you can add some chili powder (½ tsp) to these fries.
Different oil. No olive oil on hand? You can definitely use avocado oil, canola oil, or vegetable oil with similar results.
Storage. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 2-3 days. They won't be quite as crispy as they are straight from the air fryer but you can crisp them back up in the air fryer for a few minutes.
Dipping sauces. I love a good dipping sauce with sweet potato fries! Our favorite dipping sauce recipes are Greek Yogurt Ranch Dressing, Sriracha Mayo (this is super versatile and the recipe linked is from when I use it on salmon tacos!), and Curry Mayo. Honestly? I usually just eyeball a Sriracha mayonnaise by combining ~⅓ cup mayonnaise and 1-2 teaspoons of Sriracha in a small bowl and mixing to combine. Easy peasy!
Don't overcrowd the basket. For best results, try not to put too many sweet potato fries in the basket at one time. If you overcrowd your air fryer basket, you will risk steaming the fries which will make them soggy. We want a crispy sweet potato fry! Make sure it is only filled about halfway and toss halfway through.
How to make without an air fryer. No air fryer? No problem! Simply prep these sweet potato fries as directed in the recipe card and then bake at 425 degrees for 20-25 minutes, tossing halfway through.
