Sweet and Spicy Air Fryer Brussels Sprouts are tossed in a Sriracha Maple Syrup and Garlic marinade and cooked in the air fryer until soft on the inside and crispy on the outside!
I’m a huge fan of brussels sprouts, but have been stuck in a rut with my cooking methods. I either toss them in olive oil, garlic, and salt and roast them in the oven or shred them and saute them on the stovetop. Delicious? Yes. A little boring? Perhaps. Luckily, Sweet and Sour Air Fryer Brussels Sprouts are here to spice things up a bit!
I absolutely love using the air fryer to make brussels sprouts. For one, I don’t have to preheat my oven. This recipe does call for you to preheat your air fryer, but I just did it for the length of time that I was prepping my brussels sprouts, so there really wasn’t any extra wait time. Second, the air fryer gets them so crispy, which I absolutely love!
The marinade is a combination of olive oil, maple syrup, Sriracha, fresh garlic, and salt. All ingredients are ones I always have on hand in our house!
Of course, there are brussels sprouts. You can use any size of brussels sprouts, but if yours are on the bigger side, be sure to cut them in half. Mine were pretty small this time around, so I simply trimmed the ends off to save myself some prep time.
The last ingredient is cilantro. It might sound like a strange combination with brussels sprouts, but it adds a freshness to the side dish that works really well with the sweet and spicy marinade!
First, start by preheating your air fryer. There are a lot of different kinds of air fryers out there. Some are digital, some aren’t. Mine is pretty basic, and just has a dial for the temperature and another dial for the time. I turned mine on to preheat at 390 degrees F (which is the highest mine goes) while I prepped the brussels sprouts.
Next, prep the brussels sprouts. As previously mentioned, if your brussels sprouts are small, you simply need to trim off the ends. If they’re bigger, trim off the ends and cut them in half.
To make the sweet and spicy sauce, simply combine the olive oil, maple syrup, Sriracha, fresh minced garlic, and salt in a small bowl. Then, toss the brussels sprouts in 3 tablespoons of the sauce. The rest is saved for later.
Place the brussels sprouts in your air fryer basket and cook for 8 minutes, toss, and then cook another 6-8 minutes. Check around 6 minutes and decide if you’d like them crispier or not. Once they’re finished cooking, you will toss them in the remaining sauce.
The brussels sprouts are finished with a sprinkling of fresh cilantro, which gives them a super fresh flavor. So, so good!
