Southwestern Turkey Burgers are grilled turkey burgers with southwestern spices, jalapenos, red onions, and topped with Pepper Jack cheese and guacamole!
I’ve been on a grilling frenzy lately. Every night I’ve been firing up either our gas stove or our new Solo Stove Grill, which has been so much fun to use! The Blue Cheese Burgers were definitely a huge hit, as were these Southwestern Turkey Burgers. They have SO much flavor and even a little kick from the addition of chopped jalapenos and pepper jack cheese on top.
Ground Turkey
Diced Jalapenos – fresh jalapenos finely diced give this turkey burger a little bit of a kick and lots of flavor.
Diced Red Onion – I love adding diced red onion to burgers for some texture and flavor.
Chili Powder – added for a little bit of smokiness and Southwestern flavor.
Cumin – I love the distinct flavor that cumin gives these burgers.
Egg – turkey burgers usually need an egg for a binder, as they’re lower in fat than beef burgers.
Bread Crumbs – also help give the burgers bind together into a patty.
Salt
Pepper Jack Cheese – gets added after the burgers are flipped on the grill for a bit of a kick and cheese!
Guacamole – This burger is best topped with guacamole for maximum Southwestern flavor!
Bun – I love using a brioche bun with burgers as they are always super soft and delicious. You could use any kind of hamburger bun that you like, or even serve it on top of mixed greens.
This turkey burger recipe is a breeze to make. First, chop up the jalapeno and red onion. Next, combine the ground turkey, jalapeno, red onion, cumin, chili powder, egg, breadcrumbs, and salt in a bowl. Mix until combined, but be careful not to overmix. Overmixing the meat will result in tough burgers and we want tender burgers!
Form into patties and then preheat the grill to medium-high heat. I always grease the grill grates before grilling burgers. Place the burgers on the grill and cook for 6 minutes on each side, until cooked through. For the last 5 minutes on the second side, add the pepper jack cheese slices so they will melt.
Serve the burgers topped with a big ‘ol scoop of guac!
