This Strawberry Dump Cake is such an easy and delicious way to enjoy strawberries for dessert, and it only requires three ingredients. Well, four if you count the ice cream that is required on top! Kind of like my Strawberry Peach Crisp, the ice cream is not optional.

I have seen many dump cake recipes that use canned fruit filling and while I'm sure they are delicious, I wanted to use some fresh fruit in my dump cake. This dump cake with fresh strawberries turned out perfectly and was not difficult AT ALL! This is the perfect ending after a spring summer of Grilled Italian Chicken and Carrot Risotto.

This dump cake recipe is so perfect for a spring or summer dessert. I think it would be amazing for Valentine's Day, too! Between this dump cake, Strawberry Ice Cream Cake, Strawberry Cake Mix Cookies, Strawberry Rhubarb Crisp, and my Strawberry Poke Cake, you have so many options for strawberry-filled desserts!

Key Ingredients

As mentioned, this strawberry dump cake recipe with fresh strawberries only has THREE very simple ingredients!

  • Fresh Strawberries - I always use fresh strawberries, but frozen will also work. Many strawberry dump cake recipes use cans of strawberry pie filling, but I don't prefer using canned pie filling. They are filled with sugar and it turns out, fresh strawberries without any added sugar are perfectly sweet enough when topped with the cake mix and butter topping.
  • Cake Mix - white cake mix or yellow cake mix work best.
  • Butter - I always use unsalted butter when baking.

Substitutions and Variations

Different Cake Mix - I use white cake mix but you can use yellow cake mix or strawberry cake mix for more strawberry flavor.

Different Fruit - I haven't tried this, but I think you could use this recipe with other fruits too. I would recommend apples, raspberries, mixed berries, or peaches.

How to Make Strawberry Dump Cake

This easy strawberry dump cake recipe is so unbelievably simple to make.

Prep. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and grease a 9" baking dish or cake pan with cooking spray.

Chop the Strawberries. Hull the strawberries and then slice them. I like leaving them in bigger slices, but you can dice them into smaller chunks if you prefer.

Assemble. Spread the strawberries out in the casserole dish. In a medium bowl, mix together the cake mix and melted butter until it's a crumbly mixture. Sprinkle the cake mix and butter combination over the strawberries. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes. It should be slightly golden and bubbly.

I like to serve this easy strawberry dessert immediately when it's warm, topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. You could even top it with Cottage Cheese Ice Cream for a protein boost with your dessert. Whipped cream is also delicious!

  1. Is it a 9 x 9 casserole dish that you used or a 9 x 13? I'm asking because I just made it in a 9 x 9 but it doesn't seem done inside. Baked it at 350 x 35 mins.

    1. Hey Holly - I use a 9x9" baking dish and it has worked for me. This Dump Cake is served like a crisp or a crumble, so it isn't meant to hold its shape when serving. It's best in a bowl with a scoop of ice cream! 🙂
