Strawberry Dump Cake

Something about warmer weather makes me want a special little dessert every night. Particularly, fruit desserts! Usually in the summer we have popsicles or ice cream, but I like making some nights extra delicious with a fruit crisp or cobbler along with ice cream.

This Strawberry Dump Cake is such an easy and delicious way to enjoy strawberries for dessert, and it only requires three ingredients! Well, four if you count the ice cream that is required on top!

I have seen many dump cake recipes that use canned fruit filling and while I'm sure they are delicious, I wanted to use some fresh fruit in my dump cake! This dump cake with fresh strawberries turned out perfectly and was not difficult AT ALL!

Strawberry Dump Cake

This dump cake with strawberries is a delicious recipe year-round! Of course, it is best when strawberries are in season for maximum strawberry flavor but frozen strawberries would work, too. Frozen strawberries are flash frozen at peak freshness, so you will still get tons of flavor.

This dump cake recipe is so perfect for a spring or summer dessert. I think it would be amazing for Valentine's Day, too! Between this dump cake, Strawberry Ice Cream Cake, Strawberry Cake Mix Cookies, and my Strawberry Poke Cake, you have so many options for strawberry-filled desserts!

Strawberry Dump Cake Ingredients

As mentioned, this strawberry dump cake recipe with fresh strawberries only has THREE very simple ingredients!

  • Fresh Strawberries - I always use fresh strawberries, but frozen will also work. Many strawberry dump cake recipes use cans of strawberry pie filling, but I don't prefer using canned pie filling. They are filled with sugar and it turns out, fresh strawberries without any added sugar are perfectly sweet enough when topped with the cake mix and butter topping.
  • Cake Mix - white cake mix or yellow cake mix work best. You could probably use a strawberry cake mix, too for even more strawberry flavor!
  • Butter - I always use unsalted butter when baking.

How to Make Strawberry Dump Cake

This easy strawberry dump cake recipe is so unbelievably simple to make.

Prep. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and grease a 9" baking dish or cake pan with cooking spray.

Chop the Strawberries. Hull the strawberries and then slice them. I like leaving them in bigger slices, but you can dice them into smaller chunks if you prefer.

Assemble. Spread the strawberries out in the casserole dish. In a medium bowl, mix together the cake mix and melted butter until it's a crumbly mixture. Sprinkle the cake mix and butter combination over the strawberries. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes. It should be slightly golden and bubbly.

I like to serve this easy strawberry dessert immediately when it's warm, topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Whipped cream is also delicious!
