Slow Cooker Beer Brats are the easiest way to cook tender, flavorful beer brats! Finish them off on the grill for a bit of a char on the outside and they will be your go-to easy summer dinner!
With summer grilling season approaching us, I've been dreaming up all of the grilling recipes I possibly can! I did a bunch of chicken recipes a couple of weeks ago, and next up I have these Slow Cooker Beer Brats. Our whole family absolutely loves brats (Smoked Brats are a favorite!), but they can be a bit of a pain to have to boil first and we don't always have time to smoke them.
My solution? Let the slow cooker do the work! Using the slow cooker for beer brats allows all of the cooking of the brats to be mainly hands off. Once the brats are done in the slow cooker, you can serve immediately, OR throw them on the grill for a few minutes for a nice char and crusty outside.
As I've mentioned, this recipe for beer brats is so easy to make. To start, slice up the onion and mince the garlic.
Place the onion and garlic on the bottom of your slow cooker. Top the onions with the brats and then pour the beer over everything. Place dollops of butter on top of the brats and onions. Put the lid on the slow cooker and cook for low for 6 hours or high for 3-4 hours. Once the brats are cooked, you can either serve them immediately, or grill them. If you're grilling, preheat the grill to medium-high heat. Grill the brats for just a couple of minutes on each side for a little char and crusty outside.
Serve and enjoy! We love lots of toppings on our brats.
This time we opted for a more traditional sauerkraut, ketchup, and mustard. Other times we jazz things up a bit with kimchi or pickled veggies.
For sides, we usually keep things pretty simple with some potato chips, pasta salad, and grilled veggies. I'd highly recommend serving Peanut Butter Oreo Pie for dessert!
