I love a good fruity cocktail, but it can be hard to find one that's not too sweet. I like it fruity but still packs a punch. Maritinis are perfect for this type of craving because there typically isn't a simple syrup or anything too sweet added to a martini. This Grapefruit Martini is my favorite martini for the months when citrus is in season because it is just so fresh and delicious!

Why You'll Love This Recipe

  • Refreshing - with tons of citrus in this martini, it is super fresh tasting!
  • Easy - sometimes martinis seem intimidating but this recipe has just four simple ingredients and can be made in a mason jar.
  • Large Batch - I've included instructions on making this recipe for a larger group - it is super easy to adapt!

Ingredients

Grapefruit Juice - you can use fresh pink grapefruits or store-bought grapefruit juice. You will need a fresh grapefruit if you want to use a slice as a garnish.

Gin - I like the combination of gin and grapefruit- make this martini recipe super crisp.

Triple Sec - this adds a little citrus flavor. You can also use Cointreau if you'd like, another orange liqueur.

Lemon Juice - more fresh citrus juice for a fresh tasting martini.

Please refer to the recipe card for the complete list of ingredients.

Variations

St. Germaine - you can use elderflower liqueur instead of orange liqueur for a fun twist.

Lime Juice - instead of lemon, you can use lime juice.

Vodka - if you don't prefer gin, you can definitely use vodka!

Make it a Mocktail - don't drink alcohol? Make it a mocktail by using zero proof gin or vodka and non alcoholic orange liqueur instead of Triple Sec.

Add Some Fizz - if you want to cut the alcohol a bit and make a fizzy cocktail, add a splash of club soda.

Make it Sweeter - if you like a sweeter cocktail, add ½ to 1 ounce of simple syrup.

Step by Step Instructions

Three photos of a cocktail shaker with grapefruit juice getting poured into it, gin getting poured into it, and with the top on ready to be shaken.

Add the fresh grapefruit juice, lemon juice, gin, and Triple Sec to a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Place the lid on the shaker and shake for 30-60 seconds.

Pour the cocktail into a martini glass. Serve with a slice of grapefruit. Enjoy!

Expert Tips

Chill Your Martini Glass - pop you martini glasses in the freezer about 30-45 minutes ahead of time to make sure they are super cold.

Cocktail Shaker Substitute - no cocktail shaker? No problem! Just use a mason jar.

Different Glasses - you can use any kind of cocktail glass that you'd like! I used a fun cocktail glass from Crate and Barrel. You could also use a coupe glass or a classic martini glass.

Strain Fresh Grapefruit Juice - be sure to run fresh grapefruit juice and lemon juice through a strainer to remove any pulp.
