Peppermint White Hot Chocolate

Like many kids, my boys absolutely LOVE hot chocolate, especially in the wintertime. I mean, what is a better treat to have after sledding or any winter activity than hot cocoa?! I wanted to put a different spin on hot cocoa, and make it with white chocolate and peppermint extract. This Peppermint White Hot Chocolate was such a fun and festive treat - we all loved it!

Ingredients in Peppermint White Hot Chocolate

  • Milk - I used 2% milk, though really any type would work.
  • Half and Half - this adds a richness to the hot cocoa.  You can use all milk, if you prefer, but I like the extra creaminess!
  • White Chocolate - I highly recommend using the bars of white chocolate as opposed to chips.
  • Peppermint Extract
  • Sprinkles - festive sprinkles make this drink even more fun.
  • Whipped Cream - I used good 'ol Redi-Whip, but you can make your own if you're feeling extra!
Peppermint White Hot Chocolate

This recipe for white hot chocolate truly is so, so easy to make! To start, chop up the white chocolate. It really just need to be a rough chop or you can even break the white chocolate apart by hand if you have thin enough bars. Add the milk, half and half, white chocolate, and peppermint extract to the slow cooker and give it a little stir. Cook it on high for just 1 hour or low for a couple of hours. This recipe is very flexible and the only thing I would say is to not keep it on high for longer than 1 hour. Once the white chocolate is melted, turn your slow cooker to the low or warm function.

Peppermint White Hot Chocolate Questions

What type of milk should I use?

I used 2% milk along with the half and half. This recipe is quite flexible and you could use all whole milk or 2% milk. I would probably not recommend using all skim milk, as the results would not be as tasty, but I think it would still technically work.

Can I use non-dairy milk?

I've never tried that with this recipe, so I can't say for sure!

Can I leave the peppermint extract out?

Sure! I would add vanilla extract instead, to give it some more flavor.

Can this be made on the stovetop?

Yes! Simply add the milk, half and half, white chocolate, and peppermint extract to a medium saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring frequently, until the white chocolate is melted.
