Caramel Apple Scones

Ingredients

For the scones:

  • ½ cup whole milk
  • 2 Celestial Caramel Apple Dream tea bags
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ¼ cups white whole wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon cloves
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup butter cold and cut into small chunks
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 medium apple grated or cut into small chunks

For the frosting:

  • 4 ounces cream cheese at room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon butter at room temperature
  • 3 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Place milk in a microwave safe bowl and microwave on high for 1 minute.
  • Steep tea bags in milk for 10 minutes, remove the tea bags, then chill milk.
  • Once milk is chilled, preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
  • Combine flours, cinnamon, cloves, and salt in a food processor.
  • Add butter and pulse until the butter is well distributed and it resembles crumbs.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together chilled milk, egg, brown sugar, and vanilla until combined.
  • Combine milk mixture with flour/butter mixture in a large bowl and stir together with a wooden spoon or spatula until well combined.
  • Fold in apple. The dough will be sticky.
  • Place dough on a well floured surface and with floured hands, shape into a 9" disc.
  • Cut into 8 triangles and place them on a parchment or Silpat lined baking sheet, about 2" apart.
  • Bake for 20-22 minutes, until golden brown.

To make the frosting:

  • Beat together all frosting ingredients until well combined.
  • Drizzle over warm scones.
